#SOL18: March 1st

Slicing Field Trip

Here I am, sitting in a dark middle school classroom, starting my 4th year of Slice of Life with blogging friends.  Across the room, splashed in natural light in the image above (and in life) is Brezek, my writing person.  We are surrounded by 7th and 8th grade students who were formally my 2nd graders, in a classroom of a fellow coach.

I am just in writing heaven.

Brezek got me into blogging a few years back, and today rather than having our standing coaching meeting, we decided to get in the car and drive across town to another middle school to write with our why: STUDENTS.

Gorzkowski gave reminders of the lesson.

Students bartered with her over time to slice.

Students laughed over a creative and witty way to say "bless you" after a sneeze.

The room fell quiet as they began to slice.

     Words became posts.

Posts became stories for others to read, as students find their voice in the world.  #love

I looked around the room, staring at faces that I have know since they were 7, mixed in with some new faces, and was just filled with pride to be a part of their journey.  To know who they were then, and to to see who they are now, is just something I can't put into words.

I suppose this first slice of 2018 is all about the journey.  My journey today to Freedom to slice, my own journey as a writer as I start #sol18, and being a witness to the journey of these talented students that surround me.

I'm so glad to be on this journey with you all.  Slice on.

Thanks, Brezek and Gorz.

I do not love my goofy pic, but I'm smiling anyways :-)

  4. "Words became posts" is begging to be put in a poem. I'm adding it to my notebook.
