Mittens: A Slice of Life

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Writing teachers need to write themselves.
I am participating in the Slice of Life 2015 Challenge,
where I attempt to write stories and narratives about moments in my life.
I apologize if this blog post veers off the informative "literacy lens" I usually write through.
This month I am pretending to be a writer, for my students' benefit (and my own).
Writers write.

A slice inspired by a laundry basket.

Patterns of all kinds!

Stars of orange, yellow and blue
Dinosaur footprints from an old zoo?
A robot going beep beep beep
Skulls that have no bottom teeth.
Stripes in blue, green and white
Near solids with fingers
It's quite a mismatched sight!
Plain green with a blue stripe
Solid navy, too.
Mittens with no pairs
This mom says, "No fair!"

A basket full of singles.
No longer will they mingle...
No matter how many mittens were sold,
Little fingers might get really cold.

But wait...
Spring might finally take hold!

  1. This is really sweet - definitely gives a slice of life. So THIS is how you're supposed to let objects inspire you!

  2. This post made me laugh! I am really glad this happens at other people's houses too. I never have matching anything!
