#SOL19: March 4th
The Wildcats were winning. My daughter and her soccer team were already multiple goals ahead of the other team, and for each of those goals K jumped into the air and screamed, often putting two hands up in celebration. She had been doing that for all their team goals all season. She just hadn't had one of her own just yet.
Today, she was put on offense, and she was being a bit more aggressive that she usually is. Then it happened. The ball came towards her in the middle, and she kicked it right into the goal. Hearing her afterwards, she said that she didn't even trap it, she just kicked it while it was moving. And it went in! I watched the goal live in the moment, but didn't photograph it. No regrets, seeing it live and not through a lens was worth it. I did capture her looking directly at the camera after it, but with two feet on the ground.
I showed her a bunch of pictures of her jumping into the air, and asked her if she had jumped for her own and I had just missed it.
"Oh yeah, Mom, I jumped."
"Oops. Well, I saw the goal. I just didn't catch the jump. Maybe we'll just say this photo {of you jumping} is your goal shot."
"No, Mom. We can't do that. You don't lie."
She's right. I don't tend to lie, even for the sake of a great shot. But, if I were to lie about it, I'd probably choose this shot, of both my son and daughter cheering after another goal. They were cheering for the team, but in my heart I know they were both cheering for K, too. No need to lie. :)
Whoo Hoo! There is nothing like that elation that crosses a child's face when they first do something! Glad you saw it and it's a bummer not to photo it, your memory will always have that picture. On K's graduation day, you will flick through those memories and it will be like you were there again...and you will cry and people will think it's the graduation and it is, but it's so much more.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that you are right, Lisa-Beth. :)
DeleteYay!! I'm so happy that K made her goal! It's pretty amazing to watch kids and their reactions when something big happens :) I bet she loved having everyone cheer for her- she deserved it!
